Hugh Douglas, the son of former Eagles player and 94.1 WIP radio host Hugh Douglas, was one of two students from Morehouse College who tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Monday evening, as confirmed by the school.
The crash, according to an initial report from the Georgia State Patrol, occurred just after 5 p.m. in East Point, a suburb of Atlanta. The two students, Douglas and Christion Files Jr., were driving at a high speed while attempting to overtake another vehicle when their car veered off the road, striking two utility poles and overturning. Both individuals were declared dead at the scene.
Douglas and Files Jr. were close friends and roommates, both aged 20, and were set to graduate in 2025.
Douglas was described by the college as an exceptional student with a strong commitment to his studies. He was pursuing a business degree with a focus on finance and was involved in various organizations, including the Morehouse Business Association, AltFinance Fellowship, and Goldman Sachs Fellowship. He had also completed a summer internship at Ares Management Corporation in Los Angeles.
Files, also a business major, served as the co-captain of the Morehouse track and field team and held the role of media chair for the Junior Class Council. He was known for his skills in photography and videography.
The college expressed its grief over the loss of both young men, acknowledging their legacy of excellence, passion, and dedication.
Hugh Douglas, the father, shared his sorrow on social media, stating, "You were already a better man than me."
Hugh Douglas' co-hosts at WIP, a radio station in Philadelphia, expressed their condolences and sadness for their colleague. They spoke highly of Hugh's love for his children and the deep impact of the tragedy on him as a parent.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni also offered prayers and sympathy to the Douglas family, describing the young man as an "unbelievable kid."
Hugh Douglas, who is a former Eagles player and a member of the Eagles Hall of Fame, transitioned into a media career after his NFL career, working at ESPN before joining Atlanta radio. He later became a co-host of the midday show on WIP radio in Philadelphia.
WIP radio extended its condolences to Hugh Douglas and his family, expressing their support during this difficult time.
