Sony Unveils Highly Anticipated Olivia Rodrigo Edition of LinkBuds S Earbuds

Sony is set to launch a unique version of its LinkBuds S earbuds in collaboration with the pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo. This partnership offers more than just a stylish design: these LinkBuds S will come with two customized EQ modes, each tailored for Rodrigo's albums, "Sour" and "Guts."

These sound profiles were fine-tuned by both Rodrigo and her producer, Daniel Nigro, and will be accessible through Sony's Headphones Connect app when you connect the special LinkBuds S via Bluetooth. While you can use these custom EQ profiles with other audio content, it's advisable to stick with Sony's default presets for a better experience.

In terms of aesthetics, both earbuds and the accompanying charging case feature a purple, marbled exterior, claimed to be designed by Rodrigo herself. The marbled pattern results from the use of various recycled materials in the hardware production, making each pair of LinkBuds S x Olivia Rodrigo unique.

Functionally, these earbuds are identical to the existing LinkBuds S models. They offer a comfortable fit and decent sound quality with active noise cancellation, though not quite on par with Sony's flagship WF-1000XM5 earbuds.

If you prioritize lightweight comfort and affordability, the LinkBuds are a compelling choice, especially with Sony's high-bitrate LDAC Bluetooth codec. However, it's worth noting that Sony has grappled with uneven battery drain issues in its earbud lineup over extended use.

Sony has big plans for marketing these signature earbuds, including a promotional video in line with Olivia Rodrigo's artistic vision, Times Square billboards, and media activations on platforms like Hulu, Spotify, and Thursday Night Football.

These LinkBuds S were initially announced at a Sony fan event in Tokyo, marking Rodrigo's first event in the city. With her massive popularity, boasting over 63.2 million monthly Spotify listeners, these earbuds are likely to sell well even without an extensive advertising campaign.

You can now preorder Sony's Olivia Rodrigo LinkBuds S through various channels, and the good news is that they are priced the same as the standard model, without any additional cost for fans.

It remains to be seen if Apple will follow suit, considering their previous success with signature products like the U2 iPod. Could Taylor Swift signature AirPods Pro be on the horizon?
