Pochettino era kicks off with Sterling double as Chelsea secures first win

Mauricio Pochettino secured his first competitive win as Chelsea's coach with a commanding 3-0 victory over Premier League newcomers Luton Town. The match showcased Raheem Sterling's standout performance, contributing two goals, alongside Nicolas Jackson's debut goal for Chelsea.

In the 17th minute, Sterling received a pass from wing back Malo Gusto, skillfully maneuvered through Luton's defense after cutting in from the right, and slotted the ball low into the far corner. This goal marked one of Sterling's best moments in a Chelsea jersey.

Sterling and Gusto combined once more in the 68th minute. Gusto capitalized on a pass from Moises Caicedo, who was making his first start for Chelsea, and delivered a cross to Sterling, who had an easy finish.

Just seven minutes later, Sterling turned provider by delivering a cross for Jackson. The Senegalese striker managed to score his first Chelsea goal since joining from Villarreal in June, extending Chelsea's lead to 3-0.

The victory against Luton marked Chelsea's first win of the season, following an opening day draw against Liverpool and a recent defeat to West Ham United. The win was particularly significant as Chelsea's home league victory was their first since March 4. The triumph highlighted Pochettino's influence in revamping the team's style of play after struggles under previous coaches Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

Luton, competing in only their second top-division match in 31 years, attempted to respond but missed an opportunity to level the score when Ryan Giles' shot was partially blocked by Gusto and then saved by Chelsea's goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.

Raheem Sterling, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City in July last year, flourished under Pochettino's guidance. He expressed his improved understanding of his role in the team, stating, "I had a conversation with the gaffer earlier last week and we've gone through the role and I know exactly what he needs from me."

In addition to Sterling's stellar performance, Moises Caicedo made an impact in Chelsea's midfield, playing an anchor role and enabling other midfielders to push forward. This strategic shift allowed Chelsea to outclass Luton and secure a convincing win.
