Tyrie Cleveland

Eagles WR Tyrie Cleveland, DL Moro Ojomo diagnosed with concussions after both taken off field vs. Browns

A concerning incident happened twice in the second half of Philadelphia's preseason match against the Browns on Thursday night. During the third quarter, Tyrie Cleveland had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after an awkward fall while trying to catch an incomplete pass from quarterback Tanner McKee. Medical staff attended to Cleveland on the field before he was put on the stretcher and eventually taken away.

The Eagles provided a positive update, mentioning that Cleveland still had movement in all his limbs. Before his injury, Cleveland had caught one pass out of three attempts for 4 yards.

Later in the second half, defensive lineman Moro Ojomo was also carted off due to a neck injury after an awkward hit to the neck area from teammate Tristin McCollum while trying to tackle Browns' backup quarterback Kellen Mond. Ojomo managed to give a thumbs-up and wave as he was being taken off the field on the cart. The Eagles confirmed that he suffered a neck injury but retained movement in all his limbs.

Subsequently, the Eagles released a statement on Friday announcing that both players were diagnosed with concussions.

"During last night's game against the Cleveland Browns, both Eagles WR Tyrie Cleveland and DT Moro Ojomo sustained injuries requiring immediate on-field treatment. The Philadelphia Eagles medical team acted with utmost caution, ensuring the players' health and well-being.

"Both players remained responsive and exhibited full limb functionality on the field. Cleveland's diagnosis includes a concussion and neck sprain, while Ojomo was diagnosed with a concussion.

"We appreciate our medical team for promptly diagnosing the players' conditions and providing precise care. We anticipate a complete recovery for both players in due course."

Moro Ojomo, 25, showcased impressive skills throughout the summer and was competing for a spot on Philadelphia's 53-man roster for the upcoming season. In the previous preseason match against the Ravens, Tyrie Cleveland continued his strong training camp performance, catching five passes out of his team-leading 10 targets for a total of 68 yards.

Cleveland started his NFL journey as a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in 2020 from the University of Florida. During his time with Denver, he played in 23 games but had limited action, catching eight passes out of 17 targets across three seasons for a total of 91 yards. He also had five rushing attempts for 17 yards. Cleveland was waived by the Broncos in mid-November of the previous season and later joined the Eagles' practice squad for their playoff run.
